“There is a spirit that lives in all living things… All plants, fungi, animals, and even the rocks and the mountains…”
This may sound like a belief… Something you either believe or not, like a religious statement or a religious belief system… However I have experienced firsthand people from all walks of life experience the truth of this statement, in their own unique way.
To the more scientifically inclined, we could speak about the Spirit of something as it’s unique energetic signature or vibration… Whatever your perception of the world, please continue with an open mind and heart… and most importantly, follow the instructions provided, so you can have your own encounter with what I am about to share…
Firsthand Encounters With Plant (and Fungal) Spirits…

One of my greatest passions is connecting to, and communicating with, plant and fungal spirits… But that wasn't always the case! For the longest time, I did not believe that this was possible… Let alone that I could communicate with them…
I mean isn’t that something that only shamans or powerful spiritual beings are capable of…? Well needless to say, my limiting beliefs were completely shattered the day I encountered a very magical being…
And no it was not a leprechaun or a ferry… It was a human! Out of respect for her privacy, I will call her Nancy…
I met Nancy on the darkest night of the year… The Winter Solstice… Here on the West Coast, we don’t mess around… By the time the Winter solstice has arrived, the sun sets before 4:30… So even though we met in the early evening, the moon was out in full force, and the sky was filled with stars…
I walked into the dimly lit room, and there in the center was an altar, full of all sorts of witchy things… They were placed on a large circular brown cloth… Slender brown deer antlers, bright flickering candles, hard woody forest mushrooms, long slender sticks, and an arrangement of dried plants that I did not recognize…
But there in the center was the main act… A big round mushroom… The top was bright red; the color of blood, and it was speckled with small white dots… You’ve likely seen this mushroom before. It is called Amanita Muscaria… “The Flying Mushroom”... This Mushroom has deep (mycelial) roots in slavic and Norwegian culture, and is actually the origin story of Christmas! (But more on that another time…)
And there around the altar was a circle of people… Mostly gray haired middle aged witchy women (As you tend to find in many “spiritual” circles like these…) So, as a young 20 something year old man I stuck out like a sore thumb… But I was used to it.
There were a few big comfy cushions eagerly awaiting a guest… So I quietly sat down, and joined the circle, feeling the cushion squish below my weight …
I barely had gotten comfortable, when Nancy began to speak in her soothing and melodic voice… It was as if she was casting a spell and putting us in a trance…
This Drumbeat Changed Me Forever…
After some preliminary instructions, she brought out a big brown round elk skin drum, and began to slowly beat it… At this point we were all lying on our backs, the cold floor beneath us, with our eyes closed, Engulfed in darkness… I felt the drum beat reverberate through my whole body, as if it was part of me…
Then in front of my inner vision, a being appeared… He looked a lot like “Toad” from super mario brothers… And he took me on a journey…
First he cast me deep into darkness… He took me into the void of the Earth, down where no light ever shone… Farther than any roots could reach… He said, “This darkness is your unconscious. If you want to be free… If you want to fly… You must first overcome this…” I agreed to his challenge.
Then as quickly as we had descended, I burst out of the dark Earth like a jack in the box, and as quick as a rocket, I blasted off into the sky… I found myself as light as a feather. I was above the clouds, and I kept going up as if I was heading straight to the moon… I had no worries and no fears… I felt truly free.
If you’ve ever flown in your dreams, then you know exactly what I am talking about… I was ecstatic, I did not want this moment to end… But as quickly as it had begun, the drum beat slowed…
It got slower and slower, until it completely stopped, and I heard the soft soothing voice guide us back to a seated position… I stretched my arms to the sky and opened my eyes…
At this point I knew my experience was real… But couldn’t that have all been my imagination? What if I just made all that up, like a well thought out movie script?
Well here’s the craziest part… After we were done with the meditation, we shared our experiences in a circle. By the time it was my turn to share, I was in total shock… My mouth was wide open in surprise… It felt like my jaw was about to fall off of my face!
You see I was so shocked because I wasn’t the only one who had this experience… In fact the majority of the people in the circle had an extraordinarily similar experience to mine…
And that’s when I knew this stuff wasn’t just in my head…

YOU Can Experience This Too…
After this meditation, I was hooked… I started going to countless plant spirit meditation circles, as well as exploring the world of plant spirits when I was alone… And I’m here to tell you that this first mushroom meditation was not an anomaly… To my amazement, everytime we sat in a circle, an astonishingly similar experience would occur…
And the cool thing is, anyone can do it… People came who were total noobies, as well as seasoned “plant spirit” folk… The profoundness of the experience did not require a certain skill level… All it asked for was an open mind and an open heart…
So in that same spirit of openness, you can also experience this…
How To Talk To The Spirit of Psilocybin…
Honestly, to get started all you need is a quiet place to sit or lie down for 20-30 minutes… However to enhance your experience you may like to prepare the following:
A Mushroom Microdose (Consider taking a stronger dose)
A blindfold / Facemask
Your favorite incense
A drum or rattle (or a pre-recording)
1. Set Your Space…
Begin by setting up the space you will be meditating in… Or find a private spot in nature… This may look like:
Setting up an altar with some special and sacred objects.
Tidying and cleaning your space.
Energetically cleaning your space through burning incense.
Setting up cushions, a seat, or a bed to meditate on - sitting or lying down.
Lighting candles and dimming the lights.
2. Connect With Your Heart…
Take some time to meditate and connect with your own heart and spirit… My favorite way is this simple heart centered meditation:
Sit comfortably and begin to think of a memory or a person that instantly fills you with joy… This should fill your heart with a warm, fuzzy and joyful feeling.
Now take several deep breaths, and let out a physical sigh on the outbreaths to release any tension.
Continuing to breathe, focus all of your attention and awareness on your heart… Take a few deep breaths from this space…
Continuing to focus on your heart, breathing deeply, take both your hands and place them over your heart, and focus on the memory or person that fills you with joy… Put yourself fully in this thought and feeling, as if it were literally happening right now…
Smile with joy as you do this… And imagine there is a smile inside of your heart…
Continue breathing and smiling into your heart, and focusing on this memory… Fill yourself with joy and bliss…
Continue this meditation for as long as you desire… And open your eyes whenever you are ready…
3. Invoke The Psilocybin Spirit…
If you have a microdose capsule, now is a good time to ingest it… If not, that is ok too…
With A Microdose:
Hold the microdose to your heart and ask its Spirit to be present with you… Speak to it as if you are speaking to a human being… Explain why you wish to connect with it, what your intention is, and why you may need its help at this time in your life…
Without A Microdose:
Follow the same instructions as above, but simply invoke “the Spirit of Psilocybin” 3 times… It may be helpful to have a photograph or image of psilocybin as you are invoking its spirit…
4. Time To Embark On Your Journey…
Now it is time to begin your journey to meet the spirit of Psilocybin… You may wish to put on this drumming music to take you deeper into meditation…
Imagine yourself in a spot in nature - a forest, a beach, a garden… The idea here is that you should feel held and safe… It may be a familiar place, or it may be a totally new place… As long as you are in this spot, no harm can come to you!
Take a few moments to notice the details of this place - What season is it? What time of day is it? What plants, animals or other natural beings are in this place with you? Is it cold, hot, or..? What does the Earth beneath you feel like - are you sitting, standing, wearing shoes, or barefoot? You get the idea… Familiarize yourself with every detail of this place, and use all 5 of your senses to do so.
Now that you are grounded and centered here, call to the Spirit of Psilocybin and ask it to reveal itself… It may present itself as a mushroom, as a being, or in many different shapes and forms… Perhaps it's simply a feeling or a “presence”... There is no right or wrong, just trust whatever presents itself… This is the Spirit of Psilocybin
Introduce yourself to it… Just like you would if you meet someone new… Take some time to connect from your heart to this spirit…
Now begin to dialogue with it… Share your general microdosing intention… Ask it to help you… if you wish, ask it any questions you may need guidance on… While you’re here, try to get to know the spirit of Psilocybin. Think of it like a first date… Take as long as you need to not only speak to the Spirit, but also to feel and commune with it…
When you feel complete, give it a hug, take a bow, or acknowledge the spirit however feels best… And begin to say farewell.
To finish the meditation, take in all your surroundings once again, and begin to wiggle your toes both physically and in your meditation… Breathe deeply… Slowly call all of your energy back to your body. Feel yourself in your room, take some deep breaths and slowly stretch and move your body…
This is the basic meditation to connect with the Spirit of Psilocybin…
This is something you can do regularly, and the more you practice it the faster you will be able to communicate with the spirit… Soon enough you will no longer need to journey anywhere, you will be able to have this dialogue anytime you wish, in any moment of the day… With or without a microdose…
You can use this same meditation to connect with any plant or fungal spirit…
